Are Guinea Pigs Adoptive?

We brought home a new little girl yesterday, Moo, to our older two girls, Gamgee and Penut. When we held Moo up close to the other girls, Gamgee (the oldest) started to make soft motherly sounding noises that we’ve never heard her make until now. She seemed extremely interested in the baby, and it seemed to us that she wanted to be close to her and she was worried about her. The other girl (Penut) was also very compassionate and interested in the baby, but she stayed behind Gamgee and didn’t make those noises.
When we introduced them today, Gamgee to Moo first, and then Penut to Moo afterwards, Gamgee was very curious and gentle with the baby, unlike when P was introduced into the family(Gam and P were around the same age). Penut was curious and gentle with the baby, but much less than Gam was. And Moo seemed much much more comfortable and safe, and ready to go exploring when she was with Gam :)

How interesting and wonderful and cute Guinea pigs are! I love them soooo much! I can’t wait until baby Moo gets a little more comfortable at home with us and comes out of her hiding place more often. She’s so whirly and cute (and black and white-hence the name Moo). I’ll be uploading a pic of the tiny girl soon, be excited everyone!!
